Summary of us

Here you have a summarize about the funniest moments in this subject:

Jounalist of the week

Hi everybody!
I am Natalia and I am the journalist this week.
On Monday we didn't have class with Linda because she was feeling sick and she couldn't come to the university until twelve o'clock and the School organization and educational resources had just finished. So, for this week we didn't have to do any work because next Wednesday is the exam of this subject and we had to prepare and ePortfoloio in Google sites. We were working on it all Monday morning and afternoon until very late. Then, we met up again on Tuesday to finish the ePortfolio but also for preparing our oral exam by groups.
On Friday, it was the last class with Linda on both subjects (school organization and educational resources and Research and ICT) so we were asking her some doubts about the ePortfolio and about the two oral exams that we are going to have in the next three weeks. After that, she said to us some words that were really moving because she said us that we must never loose our motivation and fresh thinking, that we must continue learning English but we do it really well.

That's all for this course and this is how our first year at university finish :)

See you and I hope you liked our work!
Best wishes and good luck

Journalist summary

HI! I´m Antonio Luis, the journalist of the week, and I´m going to make a summary of our week.

Firstly, on Monday, we were talking about Educational system, but in a special way. We tried to compare our educational system in Spain with others, concretely with Finish educational system. We saw a video in which people, who appear in the video, try to explain how education works in Finland. They talk about the timetable, the budget, the schools...

After watched it, Linda asked what are the difference that we saw in the video between both system. After each one, she made a reflexion about the situation in Spain and the situation in Finland. For exmple she talked about the difference in the timetable (Finish students have a 15 minutes break after each class); she talked about the languages ( they study three languages at the same time)...

We could talk about many topics, and maybe, the conclusion, after know the situation, more or less, in both countries, could be that we should imitate Finish educational system, because they have better academic results, students like that they do, so they didn´t have problems about scholar failure... There are many reason which say that Finish system is better than Spanish one. lso, we have to say that it isn´t only better than Spanish system, mybe it could be the best system of Europe.

On Friday, we had a funny class. Firstly, we were talking about the kind of oral exam question. This is important to know because we can prepare better our exam. Then, Linda asked us for a favour: We had to record some videos.

Those videos are going to be part of an dvertisement which try to animate teachers to go to a Pechackucha season as every year. The season consist of some presentation make for several teachers who talk about some topics. The main idea is that those presentation have to be in a Peachakucha way and try to do the meeting nicer.

We had to record the following sentence: "20 slides; 20 second". It was so funny.

That´s all about our week! Write you soon

Analyst' questions :)

This week we have made three different activities so I am going to try to analyze all of them: the first one was the videos about the Finnish Educational System, the second was to revise the question for the oral exam and the third was making some videos for a conference. Let's go!

What was the worst part of the activity?

I think that there wasn’t any bad part in any of these three activities because we have learnt about other educational system and about the exam we are going to do next 23rd of May.

What was the best moment of the week (work wise)?

The best moment of watching the videos was to learn how works the education in other countries and how different it is! The best moment of the questions about the exam was to know how it was going to be exam and seeing that it won’t be as difficult as we thought. Talking about making the videos for the conference I think that we spent a lovely time together as a group class and we supported each other.

What was the worst moment of the week?

In my opinion, the worst moment of the week was when we realized that the Spanish Educational System is not as efficient as it should be. We must see how other countries are working in terms of education because they had better results.

What have you learnt?

I have learnt about the Finnish Educational System and about how important it is to conserve in mind that we are a group of people who have the same interests and we need to help each other.

What do you need to conserve as a group for next week?

I think that we know how to enjoy ourselves when we are relaxing while doing the work.

What do you need to improve as a group for next week?

I think we must meet up more frequently together because it is really difficult because of we live in different places and it is very problematic.

See you next week and the last one! :)

domingo, 6 de mayo de 2012

Hello everybody! Its Beckie and I was the analyst for this last week. It has been a bit strange this last week as on Monday I couldnt come in as there were no buses back from my village but no problems as my group has told me that Linda explained ICT and not school organization! So as the analyst, I only have to comment what we done on Wednesday, which was the last day of Snakes and Ladders!! GAME ON!

What was the worst part of the activity?
The worst part of the activity was probably trying desperatly to find the last few questions for the trivial cards as we had just run out of ideas! That and losing the game!!!

What was the best moment of the week (work wise)?
The best part I think was when we were all working as a group and we were all so very concentrated and the work seemed to be more easier. Although sometimes we just had to stop and laugh as we got tired and couldnt think of anything! There was even a moment when we started looking up funny videos on YouTube and muffin recipes on Google! It was a real laugh, all the works we do are! And we know know never to meet up on a Friday and to always do our tasks in the morning, as when it gets to the afternoon we just do not function properly!

What was the worst moment of the week?
The worst moment was definatly losing the game. We knew all the questions so well and to lose and be so close to winning was just horrible.

What have you learnt?
I think everybody has leant many things thanks to the way Linda organized this game as we all wanted to win so we all had to know the answers to the questions, resulting in studying them without knowing! I have definatly learnt many things about laws, schools, timetables etc and I have had fun by doing so! Studying by playing... who knew??
What do you need to conserve as a group for next week?
Our teamwork definatly as we all supported each other throughout the whole game, especially on Wednesday when we had to end it all. And although we didnt win, we still support each other.

What do you need to improve as a group for next week?
I think maybe organization. I think we honestly need to be a bit more organized.

Journalist summary of the week

Hi everybody! How are you? :)

I'm Berta and this week I have been the journalist of the group.

It has been a strange week because on Monday we had two hours of School Organization but we devoted them to the other course we have with Linda (Research and ICT).
So, on Wednesday we made up the time of School Organization instead of having Research for finishing our Snakes & Ladders Game. This day we could not finish the game because of the lack of time so Linda decided to postponed it for Friday, which was the last day for finishing the game.
On Friday we had a very exciting day because all the groups were almost in the same place (last squares). But finally the groups which arrived first to the 100 square and obteined the prizes were:
- Never too late (9,5 joker)
- Hakuna Matateros (8 joker)
- Chamaleon ladies (2 extra points in the ePortfolio)
- Never too late (1 extra point in the ePortfolio)

That was for the first our on Friday. From 10 to 11 Linda explained how  our exam is going to be and how to prepare our ePortfolio which has to appear in a website and has to include all the things we have done in class and an evaluation of our classmates. The deadline for presenting it is the 21st of May (two days before the exam), so tomorrow we'll start to do it because it has to include a lot of things.

Well, that's all for today!

Berta xxx :)

The best moment of the team was show that we know the answer of each question and to see how our group was a strong team.

journalist

Ok so I was the journalist this last week and here it is what we got up to in School Organization!!
First of all on Monday it was card election time, meaning that eveybody came in with their trivial cards ready and then Linda gave each group a certain topic and we had to choose the best eight cards out of all the groups cards under that certain subject. There were two groups that had double the work as they had to choose the eight cards for two different topics. It was really a fun class as we had a lot to do, we had to evaluate each card grammar wise, layout, presentation etc and give it a mark.
By the time every group had finished analizing the cards it was time up and the class ended.
For the following day (Friday) we had to study all of the selected questions from each topic for the trivial game.

Ok so Friday came and it was game on!!
Everybody was really quite nervious and when Linda started to set up the digital Snakes and Ladders with her little Wizard of Oz magnets we got even more nervous!
It was a really cool class though, I know we all had to answer the questions Linda told us and we were all kind of shaking but it really was a good class, I loved it. Who gets to play games at school??
Well as we took quite a while to play and everything when the two hours were up we still hadnt finished the game, so we will carry on playing it on the following Wednesday... watch this spaceeeee

Thats all from the journalist xx

Journalist

Sorry for saving this post so late but I had had some problems with my computer I have not been able to do it before. On Monday  the 23rd Linda said that we had to do a new task, we had to build a game: a mixture between Trivial game and snake and ladders . This game would be based on the Spanish educational system, the teacher showed us the different topics there were:

1. Laws and Structure.
2. Management ( person and groups of management and government)
3. School time and grouping.
4. General indications about teaching methods.
5. Assessment and certification.
6. Deffrences between public and private centres.
7. Financing issues.
8. Other structures and variations.

We had to create three card for each toppic Every question had to have only one answer and we must include the question , the answer, and the name of the group, and the back of the card had to have the topic. Beside the cards had a mesure, 9 cm wide and 3cm long. The information to make this questions and answers were located in the European document that explains the Organization of the Spanish Educational System.

Then with these cards we would make a selection: Linda collected up the cards of each topic and then she would give each group a topic. Each group would have to chose the best eight cards of his topic and would have to make an evaluation of the cards (cleaning, presentation) and give the final mark to each group. When we would have chosen the eight cards of each topic, the next step would be playing the game.

In this game, there are two types of winners:
  •  The winner group ( the group that get to the last square the first ) in the exam they could use a joker card in one of the test questions and get a 9,5 , as well, another joker card for the second group which would have a 8.
  •  There is also another award for best group ( who makes the best questions ) with this prize the group will  get 2 extra points in the portfolio mark and the second prize would be an extra point for the portfolio.

Questions of the week!

Hi I know what you did family! I´m Antonio Luis Quiñonero, the analyst of the week

This week we were working in a kind of game. We had to make some question about some documents that Linda gave us. Now, I´m going to answer the question of the week about our team work!

What was the best part of the activity?

The best part of the activity was the situation in which we were in the teacher place, in other words, we are who make the question that the rest of the people will have to answer. We enjoy so much, and we think that this is important because we will be teachers and we "should" know how to make question for an exam or something like that to make an evaluation of the student in the correct way.

What was the worst part of the activity?

The worst part of the activity was thinking about question of topics which are so concret. Sometimes, we didn´t have idea about what kind of question we could make, but finally we guess the correct question for us. We hope that the rest of the people think in the same way.

What was the best moment of the week (work wise)?

The best moments of the week was when we meet at University becuase we enjoy so much at the same time that we work in our activity. We always have fun together.

What was the worst moment of the week?

Maybe the worst moments of the week were the ends of the morning that we was at University because we couldn´t do anything. The reason was that we were several hours doing the activity without any break.

What have you learnt?

We´ve learnt a lot of things about the education law, somethings that we should know because they are important but we didn´t have idea. Also, we learnt "how to be a teacher" (a little bit. but it´s just the beggining)

What do you need to conserve as a group for next week?

The responsability of each member of the group, and mainly our good relationship, as we said in other times.

What do you need to improve as a group for next week?
We must improve our point of view as teachers at the same time that we do our activities as students.
That´s all! This was our week! `Write´you soon

Star

Hi everybody
I´m Esther and I was the star of last week.
We had to do a campaign against books, and I had to be the star. We had some problems to rec the videos because we had a lot of ideas but  we didn´t know how we must do it , also when we decided exactly what we wanted to do and to began to rec, the second problem was that I´m a bad actress , "I hate appearing in videos" and when I see any camera, I normally don´t know how I must behave and unconsciously it makes me nervous, and also my voice tumbles. But I had to do it, and then I had to exceed my fear and go out, with the small problem that we had to repeat the scene again and again. But like we have worked a lot, we achieved to do it, and  finished our campaign.

Summary of the week

Hi everybody!
I am Natalia and, as you can see in the previous post, I have been the journalist this week so let's know how this week has been developped:
On Monday we had a "tutoria" with Linda because we are in the half of the course and she wanted to tell us how was our work going. I have to say that we were all a bit nervous and scared because although we were working very hard we didn't know if we were in the right track. She told us that she really like what we are doing because we are fresh and creative but she lacks a little bit of reflection about the theoretical part of the subject but it was nice and we are now very happy to know that we are doing a good work. Here you have a photo of the "tutoria" session.

On Friday we were watching our campaign against textbooks which was called "Dark side of textbooks" so, as every group did her own campaign we were watching them because we had to record it. From this activities we were able to know what are the disadvantages of using textbooks and then every group had to put them in a chart and choose ten of them.

This week we didn't have to do any work in group so for this reason we didn't meet up.

That's all for this week and have a nice Easter week :)
See you in twoo weeks!

Roles for the last week before Easter holidays :)

Reflection about the theory!

Hey Hey Hey its Beckie here and I was the facilitator for this last week before Easter. It has been a fun week in ICT as Linda`s tasks for us have been pretty cool. On Friday we watched all of our adverts and read Ana`s group`s story and had a good laugh as some of the bloopers were hilarious.
After all of this though, I have to write some of the theory and what we have learned from these fantastic classes. Here are all the ideas we took from each one of the groups works:

GROUP BROKEN DREAMS
1.      Textbooks tell the truth to a certain extent.
2.      It is better for a friend to explain something than a long definition in a textbook.
3.      There are more methods than the ones in textbooks.
4.      Theories in textbooks can cause problems as some students might investigate a certain topic more and the teacher or other students might judge them by saying that the textbook is the only source that is right.

GROUP CAMALEONES
1.      Children/teachers that read textbooks think that everything they read is true, they believe everything they read…
2.      Textbooks are an economic problem.
3.      Textbooks have become a business.
4.      Editorials choose our children’s topic of learning.
5.      Teachers should choose what resources they want to teach with.
6.      Textbooks produce only one way of thinking.
7.      Use ICT in the classroom.

GROUP HAKUNA MATATEROS [best videos]
1.      Some things are better understood by practicing them and not by reading them.
2.      An average of 350 euros per family is spent on books every year in Spain. But is this really necessary? With the new technologies it is not...
3.      Books are not a religion and not everything in them is true.
4.      It is better to spend more money on technology than books.

GROUP I KNOW WHAT YOU DID IN THE LAST BLOG
1.      Not all things are true just because the book says so…
2.      You can find the same or even more information on the Internet.
3.      With new technologies you don’t have to carry around heavy books.
4.      Women are mentioned much less in textbooks. The information in the textbooks is the opinion of just one editorial and this information can be quite sexist.

GROUP NEVER TOO LATE
1.      Editorials are not interested in digitizing textbooks or changing anything.
2.      Education is not being changed, only the resources, not the actual education.

GROUP THE CHALK DRIVERS
1.      It is possible to learn with the new technologies. Classes can be much better and more entertaining with the new technologies.
2.      Change can be for the better.
3.      Some teachers have different perspectives on things (mostly older teachers), but change is good.

Ande here is our reflection on the topic:
We all agree on the fact that the new technologies have many advantages in the classroom, as a laptop as a tablet as an iPad as a netbook etc all consist of just one light piece of technology. Books on the other hand weigh a lot more and in the long run are much more expensive! It would seriously just be better and more economical to buy a laptop (with unlimited access to Internet) than buy an overall of 10-20 books every year.  The editorials always seem to be changing the content in these books aswell, obliging us or better said out parents, to buy even more books as the ones from the previous years are now not valid...
I honestly think, as my group does too, that it would be much better to introduce the new technologies into classrooms everywhere. We know that there might be some problems, like when some children get distracted from the class by talking on Tuenti or Twitter, but if we think about it, books have much more disadvantages... Here are a few, as I could go on for hours talking about this subject:
1. They are more expensive in the long run.
2. They are too heavy and can cause major back problems in the future.
3. Their content is changing every 2-3 years, which means basically throwing them away after.
4. Children aswell as teachers are taught to believe everything they read in their books, when sometimes its not always like this...
5. Some children might not understand a certain topic in the book but the teacher might not be able to make this topic understood or easier, causing the pupil to go on without understanding this.
6. Women are not mentioned much in some of these books, which can be quite rude for us girls!
7. Some students might investigate a certain topic elsewhere (Internet) and realize that what is written in the book is not quite true and therefore cause problems with the teacher by telling him so (as everything in the book is true... not).
8. Textbooks have now become a buisness...
9. Books can really become boring and sometimes we feel like burning them when we do not understand something. Internet at least provides a series of webpages and information on one subject.
10. Finally, summing it all up, textbooks provide only one way of thinking, and this is wrong...

Beckie xx
